Gearing Up Your Sales For Christmas

In exactly 22 days time (at my time of writing), will be the most celebrated festive season the entire year round. This is usually the time when Christians and Catholics all over the globe celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Every year that day would see an annual dinner between schoolmates of my alma mater but unfortunately for us, this could be the first time in a long while that we would have to call it off.

From a business perspective however, Christmas is also a time when consumers spend the most money on gifts, travel, food and decorations. Most retail outlets see Christmas as an opportunity to increase their sales as they introduce new promotions and offers to captivate buyers. Statistically speaking, sales do increase dramatically during this period leading to December 25th. If you are a business owner, then have you thought about how you are going to capitalize on it?

Because of a business venture that I’m working on with a friend, we have come to realize that the electronics sector is going to profit a lot from this. Two other areas would be children’s toys and women’s accessories. So instead of watching the world go by this season, we have been scouring the internet and local distributors for these seemingly hot items to market to the rest of the world. In actual fact, we are already behind time at the rate we are going due to certain unforeseen circumstances, and are still testing for optimal results.

In the US, Christmas shopping normally begins right after Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. This is the period when Christmas shopping is deemed the busiest day in the calendar year. For shrewd retailers or business owners, they would already have made necessary preparations weeks beforehand. If I could turn back time, I would have done the same.

As for those who intend to sell stuffs on the internet, you would probably need to start working on your Christmas website earlier. While there are many who still prefer to shop at retail outlets, you should keep in mind that a good handful of savvy shoppers do their shopping in the comfort of their home, while sipping coffee. If you want to target these groups of shoppers, then most of the planning, implementation, and testing, not forgetting optimizing your site would need to be performed by mid to end October. Ideally. The same also applies if you are selling via affiliate programs too.

Anyway, for the both of us, we will try not to miss this one out. While I’m keen to see profits rolling in, I’m actually more concerned with getting the fundamentals right, and not having to pick up the mess later on. But fortunately, because of the nature of that product we are marketing, we still have a good 3 months before it really gets saturated in the marketplace.

But then again, there’s always Valentine’s Day to look forward to!
